The hand wheel height-adjust operates smoothly, thanks in part to rack-and-pinion hardware. There's a well-placed tension-indicator gauge that works in conjunction with the conveniently located cast-iron wheel-control blade tension. We were thoroughly satisfied by the gripping power and glide of the T-style rip fence, and we especially like the pad-lockable start button that comes standard on all big Jet tools and prevents accidental start-up and unauthorized use. --Justin Paul

I have not used a bandsaw before, so I don't have a good reference. It assembles fairly quickly, but plan on having some help with friends for the lifting part. I agree with the previous review that the lower blade guides are difficult to get to and adjust. Changing blade widths is a challenge, since the blade guides need to be adjusted in and out, which is tough under the table. The thumb screw adjustments are a bit cheap. The remaining fit and finish of the saw is very good, with smooth action on the blade guide, the tensioning handle, and the fence and miter guage. I bought the machine mostly as a resaw machine. It comes with a fence mounted resaw post, and a double scale to measure the resaw width. I tried this feature, and it worked well. Then I tried cutting just using the stock fence, with the supplied 3/4" blade. With minimal practice, I was able to saw 1/32" veneer from 6" wide hard...Read more 25 of 25 people found the following review helpful: By STeve (San Francisco bay area, California) - See all my reviews This review is from: JET 708750G 18-Inch Woodworking Bandsaw (Tools & Home Improvement) I bought this saw nearly a year ago, and although I haven't had as much time to use it as I'd like, I have a good idea of what the saw can do. Firstly, I bought the saw at a local store, they helped me load it in the back of my truck and with a little finese and a hand dolley, I was able to get the monster into my garage shop single handedly (I'm only 5'9", 155lbs). Set up was easy as most of the saw was already assembled, and as I recall, adjustment needs were minimal. On the negative side, I found the blade to pulse forward while cutting, and ripping would not give as smooth cuts as I had hoped. I measured the wobble in the lower wheel and found it to be about 0.030 from a true plane with respect to the case. The one at the store was out by 0.005". Jet replaced the lower wheel for me without complaint - a very responsive company. I installed the new wheel, put on a 3/4" blade and turned on the saw. Then a big clunk, bang, and out rolled the wheel I just...Read more 15 of 15 people found the following review helpful: By A Customer This review is from: JET 708750G 18-Inch Woodworking Bandsaw (Tools & Home Improvement) I purchased my saw about 9 months ago and have been quite pleased. I balanced the cost of this larger saw with the 14" Jets and Deltas and opted for the larger motor, table and fence. I did consider the Carter guides (I still am, but the standard guides work well).I purchased my machine from a local tool store as one of their floor models. Therefore, it was fully assembled and the protectant had already been cleaned off. Still, I ran through the setup and adjustment procedures in the handbook. The book is OK, but nothing to get excited about. It covers basic setup and operation and not much else. The only aggravation with setup and operation is the lower blade guide adjustment. Clearance for the allen head capscrews is poor, and a guy with short fingers has a challenge getting it right. I think this will improve with practice. Upper guides are no problem. During operation the guides can be a bit noisy but this might pass as I learn the fine points of...Read more |
