I've used a few bandsaws during my woodworking career but this is the first that I've owned. I'm not sure I could have picked a better first saw. It has been a joy to use from initial delivery, through setup, and through continued use.

The saw arrived well packed and well coated in cosmoline. Unpacking and setup took me about one an hour by myself (this beast is heavy, a friend would have made setup time faster). I had watched the online setup videos online and familiarized myself with setup. I found this to be much more helpful than the included manuals. The fit and finish of the machine were what I would expect from the pricepoint and reputation of the manufacturer. As with most stationary machines like this, make sure you have your appropriate electrical plug ready to wire since it's not included with the machine (also, this baby needs 220v at 20A, even though manual states 30A).

When I bought it, the driftmaster fence came with it as a promotion...Read more

In 1974, long before I had a workshop, I needed to have a walnut board cut into exactly dimensioned pieces. I took it to the maintenance shop in the factory where I worked. The machinist said, "Sure, we'll use the bandsaw." He came back with 12 pieces perfectly cut pieces using the shop's big Delta metal-cutting bandsaw. Those straight, smooth cuts have been my benchmark for bandsaw performance ever since. Once you set it up properly, the Laguna 14 x 14 SUV meets that benchmark.

It's expensive -- at the top of the range for home shops, more than 14" models from Rikon and 14" and 17" models from Grizzly. The saw has a 220 volt single phase 3 HP motor, so you need 220/240 power in your shop. I chose it after looking at both the Laguna and the Rikon 14-325, and comparing specs for the Grizzly G0457, G0513 and GO514 models. The 14" Grizzly G0457 lacks some features and the 17" Grizzlies are bigger than I need and heavier than I could handle. I liked the 35-1/2" table...Read more

I have used several bandsaws over the years and the last one was a nice Delta Bandsaw, so I thought until I purchased this new Laguna 14 inch SUV.

You really get what you pay for in this saw. It is so easy to set up and get going with it. I was able to set it up on less than 30 minutes and started resawing some wood just to practice a bit. I only had to do a few small adjustment from factory settings to cut some nice cuts.

If you are serious about resawing this is a great saw.

Spend the extra money and you will not be sorry.
