Summary: Great value 2010-01-01
Comment: Yes, there are many better bandsaws out there but I don't think you'll find a better value. My concerns before purchasing the saw was:
1) Initial setup - I fear having to spend hours trying to get a new piece of equipment to work as it should when you first turn it on - cheap import machines are notorious for this. Setup was very easy and strait forward and compared to other shop fox tools crating and packaging was very acceptable (my jointer looked like it fell out the back of a truck when it arrived, packing was a joke). It took very little tuning and tinkering to get the saw working smoothly, as much as I would expect with setting up any brand new machine. I was able to setup it up myself no problem, I did use a forklift to get it inside the shop. It stood about 7-1/2' tall on the pallets so moving any other was will by awkward.
2) Power - when I started my search I decided I wouldn't settle for less than 3HP but the power is more than acceptable since I don't plan to use the saw in it's maximum capacity very often - it slices through 6" stock without breaking a sweat with a decent blade.
3) Adjustments and guides - they are a little crude but get the job done - I might end up upgrading down the line but for now the stock setup is working fine.
4) Overall quality - so far after light use and having the saw around for a few months I feel it will hold up well over time - I can't predict the future but so far no bad experiences with this machine.
The only real con I've found is the blade size is not very common, you are limited to a narrow selection of off the shelf blades - but to my surprise having a local saw and tool shop make the blades was very reasonably priced solution. I would definitely buy this saw again, no regrets so far.
